একটি গাছ এবং একজন পথিক

 

সময়টা শ্রীম্মকাল। দারুণ গরম পড়েছে। চারিদিকে জলাশয়গুলি শুকিয়ে খট্খটে হয়ে গেছে । মাটিও ফেটে চৌচির । এই ঠা-ঠা রৌদ্রে কয়েকজন পথিক পথ চলতে গিয়ে বড়ই ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়ল। পা যেন আর তাদের চলতে চাইছিল না। এমন সময় পথের ধারে একটা বটগাছ দেখতে পেয়ে, পথিকরা গাছের শীতল ছায়ায় গিয়ে বসে পড়ল। কিছুক্ষণ বিশ্রাম নেবার পর তাদের শরীর বেশ ঠাণ্ডা হল ক্লান্তিও দূর হল। এরপর তারা নিজেদের মধ্যে নানারকম আলোচনা আর গল্প করতে লাগল । হঠাৎ ওদের মধ্যে একজন গাছটার দিকে কিছুক্ষণ তাকিয়ে থেকে বলে উঠল-কি গাছরে বাবা, না আছে এতে কোনো ভাল ফুল, না আছে কোনো ভাল ফল। আর ফলগুলির দিকে একবার চেয়ে দেখো-ত বড় গাছ, তার নাকি এমন ক্ষুদে ক্ষুদে ফল। মানুষের কোনো কাজে আসে না এ গাছ!
বটগাছটি পথিকটির কথা শুনে আর চুপ করে থাকতে পারলো না। বলে উঠল-বুঝলাম, মানুষের মত এমন অকৃতজ্ঞ জীব আর দুনিয়াতে নেই। রোদে পুড়ে এসে আমার ছায়ায় বসে তোমরা গা জুড়ালে, ঠান্ডা হলে, সুস্থ হলে, এখনও আর একটু আরাম করবার জন্যে বসে রয়েছো-আর অকৃতজ্ঞের মত এখনো বলে চলেছো-আমি তোমাদের কাজে লাগি না।
হঠাৎ টুপ্‌ করে একটা বটের ফল, নিন্দা করা লোকটার মাথার ওপর পড়ল । বটগাছটা তখন তাকে বলে উঠল-আমার ফল ক্ষুদে ক্ষুদে বলে একটু আগে নাক সিঁটকাচ্ছিলে, যেটা পড়ল সেটা যদি নারকোল বা কাঠালের মত হতো-তাহলে কি তুমি এতক্ষণ কথা বলতে পারতে?

উপদেশ - আশ্রয়ে থেকে উপকার পাওয়া সত্বে মানুষ অকৃতজ্ঞভাবে উপকারীর দোষগুলি বলে থাকে!

It was the summer. It was very hot. The water bodies around were dry and dry. The ground was cracked and cracked. Some travelers were very tired while walking in this hot sun. Their legs seemed to be no longer willing to walk. At that time, seeing a banyan tree on the side of the road, the travelers went and sat down in the cool shade of the tree. After resting for a while, their bodies cooled down and their fatigue went away. Then they started talking and telling various stories among themselves. Suddenly, one of them looked at the tree for a while and said, "What a tree, father, does it have any good flowers or good fruits?" And look at the fruits - such a big tree has such small fruits. This tree is of no use to humans!" The banyan tree could not remain silent after hearing the traveler's words. It said, "I understand that there is no such ungrateful creature in the world as humans."  You sat in my shade after getting burnt by the sun, you cooled down, you recovered, you still sat there to rest a little longer - and you still say like an ungrateful person - I am of no use to you.

Suddenly, a banyan fruit fell on the head of the person who had been scolded. The banyan tree then said to him - My fruit is small, you were sniffing a little while ago, if what fell was like a coconut or a jackfruit - then would you have been able to talk for so long?

Advice - Despite receiving benefits from shelter, people ungratefully speak of the faults of the benefactor!
