শেয়াল ও সিংহ

পশুদের রাজা সিংহ। যেমনি বিরাট তার চেহারা তেমনি তার গর্জন। তাকে দেখলে তাে বটেই, দূর থেকে তার গর্জন শুনলেই বনের পশুরা ভিরমি খেতে, প্রায় আধমরা হয়ে যেত।
এক শেয়াল এমন এক বনে বাস করতাে যেখানে কোনাে সিংহ ছিল না। একদিন ক্ষিধের জ্বালায় অস্থির হয়ে শেয়াল ঘুরতে ঘুরতে এমন এক বনে এসে পড়লাে, যে বনে পশুরাজ সিংহ বাস করতো। শেয়াল তখন খাবারের খোঁজে ঐ বনে ঘুরছিল। এমন সময় একটু দূরে সিংহ ডেকে উঠল। সেই ডাক শােনামাত্র শেয়াল ভয়ে কাঁপতে কাঁপতে মাটিতে বসে পড়লাে। একটু পরে সিংহ যখন তার সামনে হাজির তখন শেয়াল তার ভয়ংকর চেহারা দেখে ভয়ে অজ্ঞানই হয়ে গেল।
এরপর শেয়াল আর একদিন সেই বনে এসে আবার সিংহের দেখা পেল। এবার ভয় যে তার না করলাে তা নয়, তবে আগের বারের মত অজ্ঞান আর হল না। বরং কিছুক্ষণ তার দিকে চেয়ে রইল হ্যা, বিরাট চেহারাই বটে, তবে আমারই মত পত্র ছাড়া। এ আর কিছুই তাে নয়। আমায় তাে সেদিন খেয়ে ফেলেনি এই ভেবে শেয়াল তাকে দেখে আর পালালাে না।
এর পরের বার বনে এসে সিংহের সঙ্গে যখন তার দেখা হল—তখন তাকে দেখে ভয় যে তার একেবারেই করলাে না তা নয়—তবু বাইরে ভয়ের কিছু না দেখিয়ে তার সামনে দিয়ে স্বচ্ছন্দে চলে গেল।
এরপর অবশেষে এমন একদিনও এল, যখন সে সিংহকে দেখে তাকে কিছুমাত্র ভয় না পেয়ে তার সামনে গিয়ে বললো, কি গো বন্ধু, ভাল আছে তাে?
উপদেশ - দূর থেকে অনেক কিছু ভাবা উচিত নয়।

The king of beasts is the lion. As big as his face is, so is his roar. When he saw him, the animals of the forest would almost die of hunger if they heard his roar from a distance.
A fox lived in a forest where there were no lions. One day, restless with hunger, the fox, while roaming around, came to a forest where the king of beasts, the lion, lived. The fox was roaming in that forest in search of food. At that time, a lion called out from a distance. As soon as the fox heard that call, he sat down on the ground trembling with fear. A little later, when the lion appeared in front of him, the fox fainted from fear when he saw his terrible face.
Then the fox came to that forest again one day and saw the lion. This time it was not that he was not afraid, but he did not faint like the previous time. Rather, he looked at him for a while. Yes, he had a big face, but I think it was nothing more than a letter. This is nothing more.  Thinking that he had not eaten me that day, the fox did not run away from him.
The next time he came to the forest and met the lion—it was not that he was not afraid of him at all—yet he walked past him without showing any fear.
