সারস ও বাঘের গল্প

 একদা এক বাঘের গলায় এক টুকরো হাড় ফুটেছিল। অনেকদিন ধরে বাঘটি মাংস খেয়ে আসছে, তবে এবারের মত তার গলায় কখনও হাড় ফোটে নি, দারুণ যন্ত্রণা হচ্ছিল বাঘের । নিজে অনেক চেষ্টা করল হাড়টাকে বার করবার কিন্তু কিছুতেই হাড় বার করতে পারল না। তাই বাঘ মনে মনে বলতে লাগল-আহা, এমন যদি কাউকে পেতাম যে হাঁড়টা টেনে বের করে দিতে পারে।

এমন সময় হঠাৎ সেই পথ দিয়ে এক সারস যাচ্ছিল। সারস পাখিকে যেতে দেখে বাঘ অতিকষ্টে বলল-ভাই, আমার একটা উপকার করতে পারবে? আমার গলায় হাড় ফুটেছে, এই হাড়টা যদি তুমি বার করে দিতে পার তাহলে আমি তোমাকে পুরস্কার দেব।
বাঘের কথায় সারস গলে জল হয়ে গেল। বাঘের মত প্রাণী তাকে উপকার করবার জন্যে অনুরোধ জানাচ্ছে। মনে মনে একটু তার যেন গর্বও হল । অতএব সারস বাঘের গলার ভেতর নিজের মাথা ঢুকিয়ে দিয়ে ঠোটে করে অনায়াসে সেই ফুটে থাকা হাড়টা বার করে দিল । বাঘের প্রতিশ্রতিমত সে বলল- হাড় তো বের করে দিলাম, এবার আমার পুরস্কার দিন।
বাঘ ক্রুর হাসি হেসে বলল বাঘের মুখের ভেতর থেকে তোর মাথাটা আস্ত বের করে নিতে পেরেছিস, সেইটেই তো তোর পুরস্কার রে! এরপরও আবার পুরস্কার চাইছিস ভাগ হতভাগা এখান থেকে । টু শব্দটি করলে...

উপদেশ - দুর্জনের উপকার করে প্রতিদান চাইতে নেই ।

Once upon a time, a tiger had a bone stuck in its throat. The tiger had been eating meat for a long time, but it had never had a bone stuck in its throat like this before. The tiger was in great pain. He tried hard to pull the bone out, but he could not pull it out. So the tiger said to himself, "Oh, if only I could find someone who could pull the bone out." Advice - Don't ask for a reward for doing good to the wicked.
