এক সিংহ ও এক চাষী

 

এক যে ছিল চাষী। তার গােয়াল ঘরে অনেকগুলি গরু ছিল। চাষীটি চাষবাস করে আর গোরুর দুধ বিক্রি করে বেশ ভালভাবেই সংসার চালাতাে। একদিন হয়েছে কি চাষীর গােয়াল ঘরে এক সিংহ ঢুকে পড়েছিল। চাষী সিংহটাকে ধরবার জন্যে য়াল ঘরের দরােজায় শিকল তুলে দিল। এদিকে সিংহটি যখন দেখল বন্ধ ঘর থেকে তার পালাবার কোনাে উপায় নেই, তখন সে ভয়ঙ্কর গর্জন করতে করতে গােয়ালের গােরুগুলির প্রাণসংহার করতে শুরু করল। চাষী যখন বুঝল সিংহকে সে ধরতে পারছে না, আর মাঝখান থেকে শুধু তার গরুগুলি মারা পড়ছে তখন সে তাড়াতাড়ি ঘরের দরজা খুলে দিল। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সিংহটি ছুটে বেরিয়ে গেল। চাষী বউ এবার চাষীর কাছে এসে জিজ্ঞাসা করলাে, ব্যাপার কি, এত গােলমাল কীসের? চাষী সব ব্যাপারটা তার বউকে খুলে বলল। চাষীর বউ অমনি বলে উঠল—যেমন তােমার বুদ্ধি, যে জন্তুকে দূরে দেখলে লােকে ভয়ে পালায়, দিশে হারায়, আর তুমি কিনা তাকে ধরবে মনে করে দরােজায় শিকল দিয়েছিলে? এখন গরুগুলাে সব মারা গেল। দরােজা খােলা থাকলে একটা গরু যেত। যেমন বুদ্ধি তেমনই শিক্ষা হয়েছে তােমার।

উপদেশ - নিজের ওজন বুঝে কাজ করতে হয়।

There was a farmer. He had many cows in his cowshed. The farmer lived on his land and sold the milk of the cows and made a good living. One day, a lion entered the farmer's cowshed. The farmer chained the door of the cowshed to catch the lion. Meanwhile, when the lion saw that he had no way to escape from the closed house, he started killing the cows of the cowshed while roaring terribly. When the farmer realized that he could not catch the lion, and only his cows were being killed in the middle, he quickly opened the door of the house. Immediately the lion ran out. The farmer's wife came to the farmer and asked, what is the matter, what is all this fuss about? The farmer told his wife everything. The farmer's wife said, "Like your intelligence, when people see an animal from a distance, people run away in fear, get lost, and you chained it to the door thinking that you would catch it?"  Now all the cows are dead. If the door had been open, one cow would have gone. As you have learned, so has your intelligence.
